The Department's role is to provide a first response to an emergency on the railway, generally providing first aid cover for the benefit of staff, volunteers and customers.


Specific Responsibilities: -

  • First Aid training for staff/volunteers up to the level of Emergency First Aid at Work (One-day course).
  • Inspection and refurbishment of first aid kits.
  • Providing first aid cover at special events (manpower permitting).



Other Information

The department usually has a training day once a month when first aid scenarios are carried out.  All members of the department are expected to attend the first aid course.


Most members of the department are also involved with other railway departments such as OTC, Commercial Department and the station groups.

Anyone can join First Response Department as appropriate training will be given but members with first aid skills are particularly needed.




This department have vacancies for new volunteers with existing verifiable first aid qualifications or who are health care professionals.
